Data Continuity

The Challenge

Data is the lifeblood of your business. Without access to your critical files, application data, and even entire servers, you're...out of business.

Only 6% of companies without a disaster recovery plan survive a disaster.

Think about it: without access to your servers, you can't process orders, support patients, or handle your own daily disasters. You also can't ensure you're complying to regulatory requirements like HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), or others in your industry - leading to fines or worse. If you can't support your customers, you also run the risk of losing customers. And inside the company, you may lose sensitive Human Resources information or the plans for your next amazing product.

And what about all those SaaS applications you've implemented? They're in the cloud so they should be fine, right? Well, not really. Sharing files with Google Drive is great, but what if you delete an employee? Their content is no longer available. For that reason, some companies will pay to leave old employees' accounts in place, which is expensive and a potential security risk. The solution to this dilemma? Back up the data to Datto's cloud, delete the employee account, then restore the content to a current user. Less cash out of your pocket, and no security holes. Other SaaS applications have their own challenges as well.

If it's important enough to run your business, no matter where it resides, it's important enough to back up.

Things to know about Data Loss:

1. Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

Only 6% of companies without a disaster recovery plan survive a disaster. Businesses with a disaster recovery plan report increased savings, enhanced system reliability, improved security, and reduced insurance premiums...even without a disaster.

2. IT Disasters are Costly

The cost of data breaches and data loss will top $2.1 trillion by 2019 as more data is digitized. The majoriy of these data breaches will come from existing network infrastructure and IT systems, as well as the increasing threat of Ransomware

3. Humans Make Mistakes

80% of downtime instances impact mission-critical applications and business data, and the majority are caused by human error.

4. Disasters Affect Everything

A data center outage costs about $8,851 per minute (for a mid sized company) and can cause forfeited sales, lost data, damaged equipment, disrupted processes, legal or compliance liabilities, damaged client relations and reputation, and wasted resources controlling the damage.

Disasters can hinder business continuity:

1. System Disasters

Hardware, software, systems, and data centers - when they fail, your business doesn't have to.

The 2016 Cyber Resilience Report found that 66% of companies in 61 countries experienced at least 1 cyber incident in the last year, caused primarily by phishing & social engineering, malware, spear phishing, denial of service, and out-of-date software, rendering the organization's own network either contaminated or inoperable.

2. Natural Disasters

Due to global climate change, natural disaster occurrences have increased and intensified.

Since 2010, we have suffered 2018 natural disasters (averaging 336 per year). The US is second only to China for the number of natural disasters. Natural disasters have cost the global economy $2.5 trillion since 2000. 80% of businesses suffering a major disaster go out of business in three years.

3. Human Error Disasters

The most frequent, most common, and often most detrimental cause of disasters that can disrupt business continuity is unintentional human error. 70% of the successful attacks on businesses came from internal threats like employees and contractors. Even small data losses - those with fewer than 100 files lost - cost between $18,120 and $35,730. A single poor choice by a single employee can lead to catastrophic data loss.

BC/DR: Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

To ensure your company doesn't face these challenges, you need a plan - one that is highly dependable and easy to manage. Datto's Data Continuity (Total Data Protection) Platform provides an end to end solution enabling you to back up servers and NAS storage locally, then ensure full protection by replicating the backup content to Datto's highly secure Cloud. For popular SaaS applications with data already in the Cloud, Datto Backupify allows complete control over protecting and accessing Critical content.

Restores are just as easy as backup. If you lost just one file, search though version history to restore just the right one. If your whole server went down, quickly bring up a Virtual copy on site with our Datto SIRIS device. If your whole office is under water? Virtualize your entire critical business infrastructure in the Datto Cloud. And we back up as frequently as every five minutes, ensuring you extremely granular restore options.

Rest assured you can bounce back fast from any disaster, and continue to do business in minutes - not hours, days or weeks. In fact, we can initiate a virtualized copy of a server within 6 seconds from pushing the restore button!

Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)

Data protection doesn't need to be prohibitively expensive. Where other solutions require a huge initial one-time capital investment, Datto's monthly service fee makes it simple to convert sticker shock into an ongoing service contract. This can be moved into the operational expense side of accounting, which lets you plan your budget with a lot less pain in the pocket.

And did we mention Service? Datto is with you at every step, from planning to implementation support (our Support team is availble 24/7/365), and during Disasters large and small.
